Advance in cell touch structure patents are available on IP market for selling

This is the formal notice that SuperC Touch is starting to seek the opportunity to cooperate with the industry partners by selling SuperC Touch’s patents to industry. The details are explained in below.

Patent name: Incell Touch panel structure with metal sensor layer
Price: US 1,000,000
Description: Applying the metal line as sensor below  the BM layer of LCD to perform touch function; there is no ITO and the optical characteristics and yield is very good. Rework is easy and no lamination issue.

Cost reduction estimation for 4.3” mobile phone is around 3 to 10 USD
Cost reduction estimation for 7” tablet is around 5 to 10 USD
Cost reduction estimation for 10” tablet is around 10 to 15 USD
Cost reduction estimation for 13” notebook PC is around 20 USD

Estimation saving based on 10% market share is around 3 billion USD per year.

The US version, China and Korea version of the patents will be sold at the price of 2 million, 1.5 million and 1.5 million respectively in the future.

Incell technology is first released by Apple, however the yield rate is low and the cost is high. One issue is the controller IC, especially for in Cell. In fact, it is easy to add touch feature inside LCD. As the patent suggests, by adding one mask on the color filter glass, the increased cost is minimal and panel production is not difficult.  Because the sensor is very close to LCD VCOM layer which made the measurement very difficult, that is the challenge.  Today’s Controller IC cannot manage this challenge and so no LCD supplier is adapting this technology for touch.  

However SuperC Touch develops the new technology to resolve the challenge and provide the possibility of high yield production.

Current in cell touch patent are owned by Apple, LGD, Samsung and SuperC Touch; there are very few patents that are available in the market. This is a great chance to own one of the most important patents with a minimal expense.

  
To own a patent has two benefits, first one is to utilize the technology for product development to increase competitiveness; the 2nd is to limit competitor technology strength development; or both.

About Super Touch’s patent selling business models; I summarize below Question and answers in below for your information.

1.      What is advanced in cell technology?
Traditional incell technology including resistive, capacitive and optical types, need to increase components and reduce the LCD opening. Power consumption is increased and yield rate is lower. In these 10 years, all the issues can not be resolved. Apple applied a patent in 2007 and got certified. US 8,243,027. The principle is to  pattern the Vcom layer and use metal line as touch sensor. There is no components increased, production yield is not impacted. After that, Samsung and LGD applied similar patents.

Ans:The patent is only for Taiwan and for 10 years. Taiwan is an important production base for LCD production. The more patents you have; the more protection you can expect.

4.      What are the differences between GFF, Incell, Oncell and OGS; the comparison of structure, cost, resource, yield, limitation and the other?
Ans:SuperCTouch’s In-cell technology is the simplest way of Incell technology. The yield is highest and resource consumption is the least. Transparency is the highest due to there is no ITO. The challenge of OGS and GFF is the controller IC, there is no controller in the market that can support SuperC Touch, Apple, Samsung and LGS’s panel. SuperCTouch’s IC can support the panel build for SuperC touch technology.
The comparisons are:
SuperC Touch: metal sensor is below BM, Sensor under BM is thin; transparency is good, material cost is lower; need SuperC Touch controller

GFF: transparency is the worst, yield is worse, material cost is lower then OGS, IC is easy to get
OGS is thick; transparency is OK, yield is better than GFF, material cost is high; IC is easy to get
On cell transparency is better, yield is ok, material is fine but controller IC is difficult to get
In cell (apple) is thinner, transparency is good, yield is low, material cost is ok, IC is easy to get
In cell (optical) is thinner, transparency is no good, yield is low, material cost is high, IC is not easy
In cell (micro switch) is thin, transparency is no good, yield is low, material cost is ok; IC is easy to get.

6.      Current SuperC Touch status:
Ans:SuperC Touch has not finished all the patent application. There is no production product yet. For mess production of the inventions we are willing to sell the patents.

7.      SuperC Touch is going to raise fund?
Ans:We are trying to sell the patent to raise the fund. The raising fund is also another option. Both methods are under going now. Once money is raised; SuperC Touch will stop patents selling and start commercialize the products.

8.      What is the difference between current touch technologies with SuperC touch.
Ans:SuperC touch does not measure the capacitance but measures the change process of the capacitance which is the major difference. The technology is leading current technology.

感謝業界先進的熱情回應

    SuperC-Touch首開觸控專利訂價買賣的商業模式,得到許多先進的熱情鼓勵與回應,並提出問題與建議,經過一番整理與歸納後提供給大家做參考。

1.     何謂先進內嵌式觸控
Ans: 傳統的內嵌式觸控包含電阻式,電容式,光學式三種,都必須增加元件,犧牲LCD的開口率,增加耗電,會造成生產良率下降等缺點,10年來都無法突破所以無法成為主流,而內嵌式觸控一直是Apple想要做的觸控技術,所以在2007年提出了 US8,243,027號專利並已獲證,其主要的精神在於以電容感測為主,將LCD內部的V com層圖案化再把LCD內部看不到的區域用金屬線來做為觸控Sensor為主要概念,不新增元件,簡化增加觸控功能所需的製程,提高生產良率為主要訴求,之後samsungLGD都開始跟進申請相關專利。
2.     SuperC-Touch類似的專利有哪些

3.     台灣新型專利有何保障
Ans:台灣新型專利的權利時限為10年,雖然沒有實審仍有提告的權利,權力有效處所限於台灣,但台灣目前為觸控與LCD 的生產重地,所以台灣專利也是業界必爭之地,所有的專利都有失效的可能,包括Apple申請獲證的專利都有背叛失效的案例,所以最佳的策略為爭取更多的專利作為武器,任何專利都無法保障他人的迴避設計,但是專利的擁有者握有主動權,提告人官司輸了損失少,贏了就豐收,被告者官司贏了都還損失律師費,何況是輸再加上過程中營運的損失。
4.     计于GFF,INCELL ,ONCELL ,OGS的对比(从结构,成本,资源,良率,使用限制,透过率等反应器件的特性
Ans: 感謝對岸好朋友的提問,SuperC-Touch的先進內嵌式觸控結構,已經將in cell簡化到最省的結果,所以在結構上是最簡單,生產最容易,良率最高,成本最低,所耗的資源最少,透光率上因為沒有使用ITO所以遠高於on cellOGSGFF,目前最大的限制是觸控IC,大家可以想像如果觸控面板生產變得越簡單,表示把困難丟給觸控IC來解決,以目前上市的觸控IC技術,應該還沒有可以讓SuperC-TouchApplesamsungLGD的先進式觸控結構面板可以使用的﹑不過SuperC-Touch開發出的微擾共振技術,日後觸控IC量產時可以完全符合先進內嵌式觸控面板的使用。

Ans: SuperC-Touch目前才完成大部分的專利佈局,微擾共振技術也還在實驗室階段,所以還沒有任何量產商品,由於開發出領先業界的最新觸控技術,普遍受到觸控產業的重視,為了要將此重要的觸控IC商品化,需要龐大的資金,所以只好將佈局好的先進內嵌式觸控結構專利拿出來與大家結緣,期望一同來完成此次觸控產業最大的變革。
7.   SuperC-Touch 有募資計畫嗎?
Ans: 募資計畫與專利銷售同時在進行,目的都在籌措量產觸控IC的資金,就看何種方式先達成目標,待目標達成後SuperC-Touch就會停止後續專利的銷售,專心把觸控IC完成,讓in cell成為觸控的主流技術。
8.   SuperC-Touch 微擾共振技術與現有的觸控技術有何不同
Ans: 現有的觸控技術不論是Apple,Synatpics,Cypress,Atmel等廠商都以測量電容為主,SuperC-Touch"微擾共振技術測量的是電荷變化過程而不是結果,所以在基本的原理上與現有觸控技術完全不同,從實驗的結果來看,相當於將SNR比拉開到數百~數千倍的水準,領先現有的技術應該有幾個數量級的差距。

SuperC-Touch 第一件先進內嵌式觸控結構專利開始上架銷售

首先推出重量級的內嵌式觸控結構專利。

 使用金屬線作成的Sensor隱藏在 LCD color filterBM下面
沒有使用ITO所以光學特性最好,良率高,容易重工 (Rework) 因此貼合問題最小

    先進內嵌式的觸控技術起源於Apple,到目前為止也只有Apple完成量產,但是一直無法提高良率讓成本居高不下,其實仔細分析原因,關鍵在於觸控IC的技術,多年下來缺乏革命性的突破,所以不論是OGSon cellin cell,都受限於觸控IC的能力不足,無法大幅降低成本,尤其是in cell所受的影響最大, 其實在LCD內部增加觸控功能是很簡單的,如同本專利案只要在彩色濾光的玻璃上增加一到光罩程序即可,對成本增加有限,in cell 面板的生產也沒有困難,真正在量產上的困難是由於感應電極與LCD
V com層,距離只有幾微米,LCD V com是整片的ITO導體對觸控的偵測會產生極大的不良影響,因此讓現有的觸控IC都無法使用,所以LCD的生產廠商都不會考量此方法。

   SuperC-Touch 開發出領先業界的微擾共振的觸控IC技術,可以完全將本專利具體實現,所以可以克服產品的量產技術障礙,也由於先進內嵌式觸控技術可使用的方法,把所有的排列組合都算入,在數量上並不多,目前相關的專利申請集中在AppleLGSuperC-Touch三家手上,是非常稀有的資源,就像橋牌中的王牌一樣,在AppleLG手上的專利是不會釋出的,所以SuperC-Touch手上的專利就更為重要,是下一場觸控爭奪戰的王牌武器,值得深思與重視。

         購買專利的原因基本上分為兩種,() 買來自己生產用,增加自己的競爭能力,() 買來不讓對手用,限制對手的競爭能力,或者以上兩者皆有,用博奕的觀點來看,都有可取之處,是見人見智的決策,台灣的新型專利期限雖然為10年,在現在的電子產業變化的速度來看,產品的黃金期只有3~5年,而專利的審查都要3年以上,趕不上產品推廣的進度,所以發明案的時效性不如新型來的有效率,兩種在價值上是可比較的,新型與發明的差別還有一項在於沒有實審,從專利的穩固性上看來較弱,但仍然擁有提告的權利,在嚇阻的角度上是相同的,其所產生營業的邊際效益依然存在,從最近的觸控官司來看,營業的邊際效益比侵權的賠償來的受重視,如觸控大廠宸鴻,在台灣申請都以新型為主,發明的案件比例低可以得到證明。

今年預計要進步10倍,提早在3月底前完成

       SuperC-Touch的觸控技術每年都以10倍以上的速度在進步,本以為達成的難度會逐年增加,沒想到今年才用3個月就可以提早完成,看來SuperC-Touch的"微擾共振"理論還有很大的進步空間,與現有的觸控偵測技術的差距還會再加大.

內嵌式觸控顯示面板結構 台灣專利核准了

摘要
本創作提供一種內嵌式觸控顯示面板結構,包括有:一第一基板、一第二基板、及一遮光感應電極層。第一基板及第二基板並以平行成對之配置將一液晶層夾置於二基板之間。遮光感應電極層位於第一基板之相對於液晶層之同一側的表面,遮光感應電極層係由多數條遮光導體線所構成;其中,該多數條遮光導體線可分成一第一組遮光導體線、一第二組遮光導體線、及一第三組遮光導體線,該第二組遮光導體線形成N個多邊型區域,在每一個多邊型區域中的遮光導體線係電氣連接在一起,而每一個多邊型區域之間並未連接,以在該遮光感應電極層形成有單層感應觸控圖型結構。
